Keeping Representation

For politicians to be elected, they must pander to the masses, but for cash, they must pander to the wealthy. This is why many politicians make outrageous promises to their constituency while they are campaigning, but they usually only deliver on their promises, not to the people that put them in power, but the people that keep them there with their money. This is why we see politicians talking about equality to the people on television, but in their offices they are signing protectionary bills, giving their rich supporters special privileges. Has anyone noticed that most of our "representatives" act like traitorous demagogues?

A "Demagogue" is a rabble rouser, who fabricates his message to reflect the values of the lowest common denominator of people.  Once those people put him in power, at best he abandons them to join the upper crust of society, and at worst, he turns around and start tyrannizing over the people who put him in power. A demagogue can only be held in check by the people or group that has leverage over him: the people has something he needs. This is what keeps the dishonest, honest. A dog will only serve the hand that feeds him, no matter who's hand it is.

This phenomenon happens across all party boarders, all positions, and sectors. It was against this kind of behavior that the founders made the position of  judges for life, so that their court decisions wouldn't be twisted to fit the needs of the people that keep them in power. The question is then, how does a nation keep their politicians representative of them? There would have to be some way to keep politicians always tethered to the interests of their voters. While recall and impeachment, do exist for such a purpose, their moving pars are rusted shut. Either these methods to keep politicians honest need to be oiled and used more, or other systems must come into practice.
